Waheguru ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ki Fateh.
Welcome to Lagos Gurudwara!!!
I registered this blog a few months ago. My main intention was to show my family and friends back home what my gurudwara in Lagos looks like. Also to show them what activities happend there, what has been planned for the coming months.
I landed in Lagos on July 5, 2008. The next day was a Sunday, my colleagues had planned an outing to the Takwa Beach. Enjoyed the beach.
July 6 onwards, I started looking for a Gurudwara. I was in the habit of going to a Gurudwara everyday for the past few years, so I was missing it very much. My boss told me that MJs is managed by a sardar. The next day itself I went to MJs to check.
At MJs I met Sardar Avtar Singh ji. Was very please to meet a fellow Sikh. He told me that there is a Gurudwara at Adetukunbo Ademola Street. The Nigerian names are quite a bit of tongue twisters. Avtar Singh ji has become a very good friend.
I reached the Gurudwara early on the 13th. There was some renovation being done on the ground floor, so the procedings were shifted to the first floor for the time being.
The procedings started with Sukhmani Sahib Path. After the Path, the Kirtan started. I was surprised to hear children sing melodious hymns. They were so good at playing harmonium and singing. It was heavenly.
There was Langar after the Kirtan. Delicious food - Indian Food - in Nigeria - that was a dream come true.
I have not missed a single Sunday since that day. It is only if we have a planned outing out of the city, or when I went to India for my annual leave in May-June 2009, that I could not go.
I will be posting more of these articles and some images in the near future. Please remain in touch.

Congratulations for the Blog sir,
It was wonderful reading through the blog and seeing the photo of the Lagos Gurudwara. I enjoyed reading the saakhi about Sarang Asraja. It reminded me of the sakhi's my nani used to recite to all her grand children. Every Sakhi has a message and we learn a lot from them. I would love to read more of the Sakhi's on your blog. I am waiting to read the next blog.
Wish you success and luck and lots of love,
Ira
Hi. I don't know if you are still in Nigeria but if you are please tell the people at the gurudwara to remove the idols kept on the left of the Guru Granth Sahib and also the photos of Guru Nanak Dev and Guru Gobind Singh.
We don't worship photos and idols. We value the teachings and morals our gurus gave us.
Don't understand why people are bent on turning to such brahmical and tantric blind beliefs when our religion is so simple, clean, logical and morally strong. A morally strong person does not need support of myths and blind faith and that is what our gurus taught us.
